On this day, exactly 228 years ago, 44 Spanish settlers founded a little settlement they called El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles de Porciúncula (the City of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels of the Little Portion). Since then it’s grown a little bit.
Happy Birthday, Los Angeles! May you continue to spew out smog and movies with mass-appeal for many years yet!
